Dr. Elizabeth Peters received her Ph.D. in counseling psychology at The University of Denver in Denver, Colorado and completed a pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral fellowship at Northwestern University’s Counseling and Psychological Services in Chicago, IL. Her clinical experience focuses on adults and adolescents struggling with depression, anxiety disorders, adjustment disorders, stress, women’s issues, and interpersonal difficulties/relationship issues.
Prior to joining the Vancouver CBT Centre, Dr. Peters completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Dialectical Behavior Therapy at the DBT Centre of Vancouver, where she then spent an additional four years providing comprehensive treatment involving individual and group therapy.
Dr. Peters’ therapeutic style is supportive and collaborative. She encourages clients to accept where they are, while striving for positive change in their lives. Her interpersonal style is warm and gentle with room for humour. Based on the specific needs and goals of her clients, she works from a CBT perspective and also incorporates aspects of DBT and mindfulness into her treatment approach. She encourages exploration and curiosity throughout the therapeutic process while honouring the desire for change with practical, skill-based strategies in session.
