Dr. Elizabeth Peters (she/her) is a registered psychologist in British Columbia and provides virtual therapy to individuals Dr. Elizabeth Peters, Ph.D., R.Psych. She earned her Ph.D. in Counselling Psychology from the University of Denver in Denver, Colorado, and completed both her pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral fellowship at Northwestern University’s Counselling and Psychological Services in Chicago, IL.

Prior to joining the Vancouver CBT Centre, Dr. Peters completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) at the DBT Centre of Vancouver, where she subsequently worked for four years providing comprehensive DBT treatment, including both individual and group therapy.

Dr. Peters specializes in working with adults experiencing emotional dysregulation, depression, anxiety disorders, adjustment difficulties, life transitions, stress, interpersonal challenges, and women’s mental health concerns.

Her therapeutic approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based practices. She helps clients accept themselves as they are while also working toward meaningful change. Drawing primarily from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), she also integrates strategies from DBT, mindfulness, and emotion-focused approaches. Her style is supportive, gentle, and often infused with curiosity and humour. She encourages exploration while offering practical, skill-based strategies to support her clients’ goals.

Dr. Peters is also certified in perinatal mental health (PMH-C), with specialized training in supporting individuals during the reproductive and postpartum periods (hopeful, expecting and new parents). Common concerns she addresses in this area include perinatal anxiety and depression, identity shifts, relationship changes, intrusive thoughts, self-care, balancing the mental demands of the postpartum period, and the overall emotional adjustment to parenthood. Her work is informed by a commitment to normalizing the inherent challenges of this life stage for new parents, while also bringing an informed, evidence-based understanding of the unique clinical issues that can arise during the perinatal period.

Dr. Peters is currently available for virtual appointments through the Vancouver CBT Centre on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM PT.
