Aly (she/her) is a practicum student completing her Ph.D. in Counselling Psychology at the University of British Columbia. She currently holds a master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from Western University. Her research examines the socio-ecological processes through which people may become increasingly oriented toward violence. She is
also involved in a clinical trial evaluating virtual reality-assisted cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for individuals experiencing persistent auditory hallucinations.
Aly has gained supervised experience across a range of clinical settings, including UBC Hospital and the BC Operational Stress Injury (OSI) clinic. Her training has included psychodiagnostic and neuropsychological assessment, as well as evidence-based individual and group treatment. She has experience providing treatment for individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as well as substance use concerns and psychosis.
In her work with clients, Aly’s approach is grounded in CBT, while recognizing the value of integrating strategies from other evidence-based approaches, according to each client’s goals and preferences. Her style is warm and collaborative, centered on authenticity. She takes time to understand each client’s experiences and brings compassion, curiosity, and, when appropriate, humour to the therapeutic relationship. Aly aims to help clients better understand the patterns contributing to their difficulties, develop practical ways of responding to challenging thoughts and emotions, and move toward what matters most to them.
Aly offers both virtual and in-person sessions.
