Meet Dr. Heather Morton

Psychologist

Dr. Morton specializes in providing Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) to adults and adolescents with difficulties relating to anxiety and depression. She provides treatment for individuals with generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, illness anxiety disorder, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, body-focused repetitive behaviours (e.g., hair pulling, skin picking), as well as other related difficulties including perfectionism, and difficulties with emotion regulation. She also provides Prolonged Exposure for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Dr. Morton is committed to providing evidence-based treatment. She primarily uses a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy approach but incorporates other evidence-based treatments (e.g. Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in order to tailor treatment to the individual’s specific needs. Her goal is to provide short-term therapy by supporting her clients in learning new skills that they can continue to use independently. She has a warm and genuine style and her approach is active, collaborative, and goal oriented.

Dr. Morton completed her PhD in clinical psychology at the University of British Columbia. She completed her predoctoral clinical psychology residency at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre where she received specialized training in the assessment and treatment of mood and anxiety disorders. She also received additional training working with Canadian Forces veterans, and members of the RCMP with PTSD and related difficulties. Dr. Morton’s clinical training experiences have also included placements in the UBC Psychology Clinic, BC Children’s Hospital, DBT Centre of Vancouver, Vancouver CBT Centre, Back in Motion Rehabilitation, and the Mood Disorders Unit at UBC Hospital.

Dr. Morton is currently working on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays and provides virtual and in person sessions.
