Dr. Matwin specializes in treating individuals struggling with anxiety and mood disorders. She provides treatment to adults experiencing excessive worry, social difficulties, illness anxiety, interpersonal difficulties/relationship issues, life adjustments, sleep issues, pain management, depressed mood, low self-worth, perfectionism, shame, and burnout.
To address these concerns, Dr. Matwin works primarily from cognitive-behavioural and mindfulness perspectives, as she maintains a strong commitment to evidence-based practices. Dr. Matwin is collaborative, genuine, compassionate, and goal directed in her approach. She is oriented towards purposeful change that is in line with your values, while building acceptance for what is outside your control. With practice, you will develop new ways of thinking and behaving that allow for a more fulfilling and balanced life.
Dr. Matwin completed her Ph.D. in Social-Health psychology at the University of Utah in 2007. She then engaged in research examining health decision-making as a Research Associate at Harvard Medical School. A few years into this work, Dr. Matwin obtained a Doctoral Certificate in Clinical Psychology, to better integrate her values of curiosity, compassion, and growth within change processes. She then worked at Brigham & Women’s and Faulkner Hospitals as a key member of the Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy clinic, providing evidence-based therapy to individuals presenting across the psychiatric spectrum. She was also very active in the training of psychology and psychiatry residents, as an Instructor at Harvard Medical School.
Prior to working at Vancouver CBT Centre, Dr. Matwin was the Director of Psychotherapy Education at Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, where she was elected to the Academy for Excellence in Education and oversaw the teaching and practice of evidence-based psychotherapy for psychiatry residents and pre-and post-doctoral students in psychology. Dr. Matwin continues to share her expertise as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in both the Psychiatry and Psychology departments at Vanderbilt, as well as a Clinical Instructor in the department of Psychiatry at the University of British Columbia.
